SUV or Crossover for ~$200k

Postby Randy21 » December 27th, 2024, 7:59 pm

Would like to hear some opinions on the SUVs or Crossovers that are out right now.
My price range is approximately $200K.

Did not like the body for the new Nissan Vezzel X.

Looking at the Toyota Raize vs the Yaris Cross. Also recently heard about the Agya but still need to do more research.

Have only heard bad things about the Suzuki Vitara and Grand Vitara with the prices for parts and resale value.

Not sure if the Proton series is a good car and has good resale value.

Anyone have any experience with anything else?

You are listing mostly crossovers, not SUVs and you’ve been sucked into the industry marketing.

The G'Vitara is the only, out of all vehicles you mentioned, that can be considered a SUV... it is a rear wheel drive with four wheel drive/ option.

The SUV options in your price bracket will be used, though the Crossover (car/sedan chassis with lifted height, basically) as those vehicles you listed, are many. If you do not plan on going off-road or your trek home isn't on very bad road conditions, and you just want ride height, Crossovers are probably for you.

I have a 2016 Vitara AllGrip bought from new and I personally find that it was the best value for money at that time. The normal service costs were no different to what I paid at Massy Motors, Southern Sales, Diamond Motors and TTTL for other vehicles that I maintained from new over their warranty periods.

Warranty repairs over the five year period covered a couple power window switches and the replacement of the sun visors when the vanity mirror cover broke at the hinge point on both of them.

Wiper blade replacement at Lifestyle Motors was ridiculous. The entire driver side blade assembly was over $700, the passenger side was slightly less. The second time they only replaced the rubber wiper part of the blade assemblies and that was still over $200 each.

Now that the vehicle is off the warranty, I am importing my OEM parts from www.partsouq.com, www.ssg.asia, Amazon and eBay.

Ok thanks for the info. Are there any Crossover recommendations?

You asked about SUVs but listed mostly crossovers, which is a lifted car that the manufacturer sells to you at a premium.
Most people don’t want a Yaris but will gladly put down their money for a Yaris cross for example.

I have a RAV4, 4WD 2014 model bought foreign -and-local used/second local owner. Does good light off-road use, not much engine issues, moderate amount of suspension wear and tear considering the intermittent bad road conditions, no problems regarding ride height/ touching that may happen to some cars. Would recommend, be on time with engine maintenance and things should be okay. Of course I recommend the newer models of the RAV, not old ting like mine.

I had a Grand Vitara RearWD/4WD model ( the newer Vitara sans Grand is a Front Wheel Drive/4WD instead of a RWD/4WD) that needed to replace old engine. Spoke to a mechanic and it was mentioned that neglect was most often cause for the bad reputation of Suzuki GV, but I'd advise not to buy if better choices are available. However, the GV model I had, post repairs, was a joy to drive, I did mostly highway drives, not too bad on gas. The Vitara has better reviews though.
