Garages taking over roadways, making driving difficult!

Postby Skanky » November 10th, 2024, 8:03 am

I'm sure lots of you in here know a garage that has taken over a road and made driving difficult for everybody who uses that road, lining 10-20 or more cars up for long distances along the side of the street.

They park their vehicles in the road and turn it into a one way street where traffic has to squeeze and manoeuvre tight spaces instead of driving normally along a two way street.

Why do the general public tolerate such lawless sheit ? Hundreds or thousands of people inconvenienced every day by one selfish garage owner.

Who is responsible for fixing this and how can this be rectified?

Who do road users complain to?

I don't think it's the police because they use the roads themselves and just turn on their sirens to clear it out for themselves.

And none of that traffic maneuvering through tight spaces have a 2x2 angle iron sticking out the side?

Everybody hadda eat.
As much as I’m inconvenienced by it, I won’t try to take a honest man’s bread and butter from him. As long as they’re not absolute BUGWAANAAS, we can figure out a way to coexist.

If you’re at the breaking point for some reason, talk to your councillor and possibly TCPD

And this is why we are a banana republic.

The honest man has to operate within the law. Making excuses otherwise makes him/her a lawbreaker just like any other.

The problem is that our systems encourage this foolishness to happen, instead of enforcing the relevant laws to keep the honest man honest.

I disagree dawg. We want a first world country we need to start acting like one.

Besides the ones OP probably refers is probably like homie on Alice Street in St Augustine close to UWI where its both sides for almost the entire length. That is criminal!

Also the grand Bazaar north entrance road is basically now a full on junk yard. They stopped the Kelvin and Rose from selling there but now we pass junk cars on both sides daily.

I’m inconvenienced daily, but I’m trying to wrap my head around this….

What law is being broken? We’re referring to street parking specifically here, right? Which is the inconvenience most of us face. Unless there’s explicit no parking signs it’s a free for all. Unless they’re blocking your gate, the road is free to use, not so?

The issue is the lack of law then. Get the MOWT or the corporations to designate no parking zones, put signage and actually enforce it.
They’ve been doing this in urban areas. Parking violations are towed at owner’s expense.

there is no law against it once the vehicles not in contravention of any no parking signs

what really needs to be done is a new law to indicate for reasonable use of road similar to illegal vending laws on various highways and roads

About that , selling on the highway is illegal however why do the police allow those vendors who sell on the highway heading east every afternoon. They are breaking the law but nobody stopping them? The problem is not the laws in this country but rhe enforcement. I not against a small man making a dollar but u see when men just stopping without warning in front of you to buy a drink that can't be right.

So for those of you who are right thinking individuals and don't think hundreds/thousands should be inconvenienced for one man to live, I know of two of these garages that are a real pain to drive past.

One is the side street by KFC El Dorado and the other is St Michael Road Tacarigua.

Come to think of it I know of supermarkets and bars which cause a sheit load of traffic/inconvenience to vehicular traffic as well.

Trinis really have a third world mentality yes..it's ok for me and thousands to suffer so another man can live because he nice and does talk nice, smile and say good mawning. Real cool down to earth fella, plus he not breaking any laws.

And these are educated people with MBAs,MScs,PhDs etc with this stupid mindset, all the knowledge to impress the illiterate and studied for decades but ok to be inconvenienced/sit in traffic caused by some guy who could barely read at the Std5 level and thinks Mitsubishi is pronounced Mitsubooshey

It's the reason trini is the way it is....it's being led by one of these individuals. Looks ok on paper to foolish people but can't actually do anything/get anything done in real life.

Steups yes.

As a pragmatist wearing devil’s advocate clothes though, i just wanna highlight that you’re dealing with the wider issue of businesses operating out of residential areas because the same could be applied to bars, minimarts, roti shops, barbershops etc where no parking is provided and patrons clog the roadways.

Start with your local government rep.
Mobilise the affected communities/residents so there is power in numbers. You will have to literally run them down every chance you get.

Curepe is ground zero for what you’re describing, as well as the other instances I mentioned. Ariapita too.

It’s a complex problem, but once you have the persistence to keep behind the authorities you might be able to effect change.

Just bear in mind you hadda live with or around some of these people, so diplomacy will be better than pitchforks and tiki torches.

Good luck.

My parents ran a bar for 30 years and would spend $$$ every hear to maintain the premises. Meanwhile the bar round the corner had a urinal that emptied into the public drain.....tell them about it...allyuh big shot ppl always fightin dong poor ppl
We have a small shop and parking for about 5 cars. They put their front door literally on the edge of the roadway where the sidewalk was....
I have zero sympathy for ppl 'tryin a ting' when there are those sweating to do things properly
You making your bread and butter at my expense is unacceptable
