CNC3: DNA results confirm remains are in fact Hannah Mathura.

Doubt it's a legal loophole, but more of a $$$$$$$$$$ constraint

It ain't about the money.

Sure it would be downplayed or even labeled whataboutism or whatnot, but ministerial salary increases and the infamous resource allocation to find the finance minister son's phone are examples of how resources can be explored and justified for certain things, but everything else can be explained as difficult or impossible to execute.

DNA confirmed it is Hannah Matura but they still need to link it to the suspect. No witness. Come there must be forensic evidence of the murder, dig deeper investigators.

What did the pathologist determine as cause of death anyway? I just read that they said it was unnatural.

DNA test confirms Hannah’s remains
... but DPP orders cops to continue investigating

More than a month after human remains were found in the backyard of her family home in Valsayn, DNA testing has confirmed that the bones were, in fact, those of 18-year-old Hannah Mathura.

However, there are still some critical gaps in the police’s investigation into the matter which may prevent any charges from being laid for now.

Police sources said yesterday that investigators received the results of the DNA test sometime between Wednesday and Thursday last week and approached Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard on Friday for advice in the ongoing matter.

However, sources said detectives were told to continue working on establishing more facts surrounding Mathura’s death and securing possible evidence.

Earlier reports which suggested the bones were believed to be those of a man were thus ruled as false readings.

The tests were done on the bone marrow and biological tissue-like cartilage remaining from decomposed skeletal remains. Samples from Hanna’s siblings were used to verify her family lineage.

Earlier this month, the remains were taken to the Port-of- Spain General Hospital for X-Ray analysis to determine the density and structure of the bones.

The remains, one source said, were also in a tube top, a pair of underwear and red pants.

According to details of the matter thus far, one of Mathura’s relatives told police that she was killed and buried in the backyard in June 2017.

One source close to the case said one challenge in investigating Mathura’s death was the length of time between her burial and the discovery of her remains.

He noted that material evidence, like a possible murder weapon, a shovel used in the burial or other items, were not available to the investigating officers.

“When you consider the absence of these items and the fact that the body would have been there for seven years with the area exposed to the elements... it’s a difficult matter to probe,” the source said.

Mathura’s parents were arrested shortly after her remains were found but later released pending further enquiries.

Mathura’s siblings have since sought legal representation and have cooperated with police in the enquiry.

Contacted for comment yesterday, Sanjiv Boodhu, one of the attorneys representing the Mathura siblings, said he was not aware of the latest development and did not have any instructions from his clients.

Boodhu added that he may receive information from the police today and would not be able to advise his clients until he received direct confirmation from officers.

Boodhu and Sasha Paula Singh are representing the Mathura siblings.

I don't know if the gunshot wound was a conclusive report, or just prelims speculation fed to reporters for big news. The reporter following this needs to read the pathologist report and confirm it.

Oh no, they were surprised. They didn't know what happened. Nobody from the police tell them that their severely abused sister went missing for years, was murdered and buried in a 1 foot grave in the back yard.

Hannah's family learned of DNA results from media
https://newsday.co.tt/2024/04/23/hannahs-family-learned-of-dna-results-from-media/
Lawyer for the Mathura siblings, Sanjiv Boodhu told Newsday they woke up to the news of the DNA results in the newspaper.

He said no-one from the TTPS had contacted them and any information they had gained was done through the media.

My SiL is in the same year and some of the same classes as the brother who was running for UWI Guild President recently. Based on what she tells us he told them about this and to see them tell the public something else is pretty vexing.

Wait until you see guild presi drop the sympathy card to win. Or till the mass public realize how ‘educated’ this family is. Ain’t no children in that house, is grown ass people who live and breathe UWI.

Remember there’s alot of old timers who believe book and school is everything, even worth disowning their children because of bad grades. So imagine having a special needs child in a house like this, Disowning would be the better end of the stick… my $0.02

Living with someone who may have killed your sibling and so far it seems law cannot intervene....yeah...probably choosing self-preservation.

The video not that long. But basically, he is not the one who told the police. He said the deceased was born premature and developed some illness. She passed away from the illness, all the others except the oldest thought that she was cremated with death certificate etc. From the information he has, there is no gunshot damage.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HANNAH BURIAL CASE?

Police are hopeful that by month end they will receive instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard, SC, for instructions on how to proceed against an elderly couple in connection with the death of Hannah Mathura.
Mathura’s skeletal remains were discovered in the back yard of her home in March.
In April DNA results came in which confirmed that the remains were indeed that of the missing 18-year-old girl.
Investigators have been meticulously crafting a case in this matter, and wanted to ensure that all loose ends were tied up before approaching the DPP’s office.
On March 12, officers of the North Central Division swooped down on the home after being informed of several illegal activities that allegedly took place at the premises.
The male suspect, on seeing the police, fled the scene in a red Kia sedan.
After securing the occupants of the home and taking them for medical treatment, police were informed that the body of an 18-year-old who was never reported missing was buried in the backyard.
Officers excavated a 15 by 20 foot area in the backyard and found skeletal remains, believed to be that of Hannah Mathura, who was last seen alive in July 2017.
