Has anyone got an update on their unit?
I was hoping to get this thing online before my vacation.

Hi is it possible for you to do some latency test via this website when you get your star link setup?

https://testmy.net/latency?addr=fl

^ The reason for this website is it does a continuous graph based test on jitter and latency something that you simply cannot get an accurate reading on anyother app say speedtest.net or anywhere else.

I am contemplating taking acquiring star link based on jitter and latency test across continents, granted the laser function has not yet been enabled by Elon Musk which will bypass traditional backbone routing and should me much quicker than fiber since data will be transmitted 40% faster in a vacuum ie the speed of light compared to fiber which is much slower.

Pretty cool live map of the satellites. You have to set your location and it will show what's passing overhead right now. https://satellitemap.space/#

It looks like a huge amount due to the size of the dots.

Every satellite ever launched into space including the ISS could probably easily fit in the Queens Park Savannah if you laid them out side by side.

So hearing that Starlink will ship ONLY to the residence of the final place of use (presumably some setting in their equipment for that specific location?? ).

If so, does that mean this cannot be purchased for DDI where there is likely a definite market for it? Or DHL delivering there too :poke:

Yes that's right. Portability within a country zone costs an extra $25 USD per month. That was announced since 2022 https://www.cnbc.com/2022/05/05/spacex-adds-25-portability-monthly-fee-for-starlink-service.html

My guess is that for countries that don't have standard registered address locations like USA/CAN/EU/UK/AUS etc. would activate and lock its GPS geographic location the first time it is set up through the app. So unless the user already set an exact location during the pre-registration period, I hope that they first power on the receiver unit at the intended location.

You have to set the address when ordering.
My address set in California, but I carried it in Couva and used it without problems, not that far away, about 9km straight line distance

Ok from what I reading, the Starlink network works in Cell areas. Each cell is 15 miles (24km) radius.

Outside a cell, the base unit won't connect with the uplink sats because they want to keep a consistent service for the number of users per satellite area. If more users are subscribed to a cell, they'll send up more satellites to cover the area.

Image

Starlink satellites are scheduled to send internet down to all users within a designated area on the ground. This designated area is referred to as a cell.

Your Starlink is assigned to a single cell. If you move your Starlink outside of its assigned cell, a satellite will not be scheduled to serve your Starlink and you will not receive internet. This is constrained by geometry and is not arbitrary geofencing.

Has anyone had issues paying this month's subscription?
Received several failed attempts.

However, with the same CC, I ordered a 75foot cable and it should be here tomorrow.
Let's see if customs holds it for 2 weeks.

Monthly subscription payments are done with CC online in USD alone or are there other options?

Same issue even after bringing the unit online.
Spoke to RBL, and they have not seen any subscription payments hitting the card or visa system. They did see the kit and accessories transactions and processed them.

They also reset the fraud alert on my card, and still, it failed to process the payment.

Message starlink via the App and just waiting for a response now.

The last set of accessories was delivered within a few days.

The system is working as intended, great speeds as well.

Unfortunately, one sarlink support person suggests I use a USD card. I tried two, and both failed.
Another support person said to use only TTD, so I retried the original RBL, as well as an FCB. Still failed.

I asked them to clear all pending payments, and I will try again.
The pending payment are their system generated ones as well as the manual attempts I made.

Let see what their reply will be.
