Yup the tax exemptions are a huge savings that they are not passing onto you.

Xtrail epower cost 280K brand new landed when you bring it in yourself
Massy selling for around 400k or more?

A warranty is not worth 120K on that vehicle.

That will make it less attractive to the buyer

It is at least a better system

The problem is that would only work and make it less attractive to the buyer if was genuine competition among the dealers.
The new car stealership association collaborates on prices.

So they would all raise prices and advertise the rebate you gonna get. Their marketing would go like : Kia Niro now $500,000
$350,000 after rebate
We are working with the banks so you don't pay interest on the rebate.

That would always be the problem. 99% of the car-buying public aint have 300k in savings they could just dispose of behind a personal import

So is either they buy it from the dealer at whatever price the dealer calling or continue hopping maxi/driving an ole heap

last I saw the 2WD price went up to $408K. Not sure if Massy ever brought the dual motor unit, all they had was the single motor 2WD.

Have mine now for 1 year and 5 months. Foreign new from Japan
The good, amazing power and acceleration for a SUV at this price point 0-60 is like 6.8 sec, Pretty spacious ( feels bigger than a CRV on the inside), Lane keep assist + adaptive cruise control and it works (minor quirks), sensors on your mirror for switching lanes, feels well put together. Two motors so 4 wheel drive.
Infotainment is ok but its got apple carplay and android auto.

Bad is suspension is a bit stiff for our roads and not a well damped as other competitors in this range, engine is complicated turbo, 3 cylinder with variable compression like they have on Infinity's. Battery I find could have been bigger, could have even been a plug in hybrid. Battery is also air cooled which is not the greatest solution for Li-ion batteries. Not as efficient as other hybrids seems to be more focused on acceleration and speed rather than efficiency. I get like 5.4-5.6L/100Km highway trips and 9 to 12L/100Km with the short drops to get the kids to school. which is about the same i would get on my previous civic 1.5 turbo.

Phantom noise thats there from time to time at the rear, had everything checked out and mechanically seems like everything is normal. so no clue what it could be.

but so far pleased with it at this price point for the size and utility. A Rav4 or CRV at these specs would cost over the 400K mark.

5.4/5.5km/l is quite bad. Even the 12km/l isn't all that great but in your opinion are those numbers Suv territory?

You misread the consumption figures

5.4l per 100km ~ 18km per liter

12L per 100km ~ 8 km per liter

Watched quite a few Australian car reviewers test the eforce epower Xtrail over a period of time and they have experienced that it isn't as fuel efficient as the Hybrid Rav 4 even though that has a 2.5l engine.
The BYD SeaLion which we have here as the Song Plus and even the Hybrid Tucson offered better mileage down under.

So this came out about a month ago. The largest size in its class slightly bigger than the new ranger. 2 engine choices for now which include the 2.2 diesel you would find in the Sorento with the same tune which surely wont be enough to move it around also the other option being a 2.5 turbo gas. Heated and ventialted front seats and heated and reclining rear seats Harman Kardon sound system etc.

RAV 4 with a 2.5L engine is dotish in T&T unless you have money to literally light on fire since it carries no tax exemptions and taxes on a 2.5L engine is insane.
So no fuel economy advantage is gonna make up for the initial purchase price in T&T. I can probably buy two Xtrails for the price of a RAV 4 Hybrid.

BYD is wildly overpriced here as well and is chinese so i would wait for next gen and long term reviews.

Do we get a Tucson Hybrid here in Trinidad?

But yes internationally the RAV4 is the best hybrid SUV.

Yea no arguments with you there.

TTTL did bring the RAV4 hybrid which iirc was offered at 750k.
The Song Plus here started at 425 but now they have dropped to 399 but the Aussie version AWD sells for half that price. Small market/far side of the world or not that is insane
The Hybrid Tucson supposed to be here soon and the top end version of that at 365 might be worth a look. They have gone back to the traditional 6AT transmission which the Aussies loved.

Whoever distributing BYD down here just missing the boat completely these are cheap cars internationally with premium prices locally. A Yuan Plus is 17k USD but selling for almost 400k TTD this is no MVT or Customs Duty. Criminals running business

A smarter approach would have been to price this thing at about 280K TTD where you still make a healthy profit but you win even more on the volume game. You would easily move 3 times their current volumes at that price. sheit I would buy one never having to buy gas ever and charging it at home.

My taxed 2000cc cx5 is cheaper than a Xtrail ePower, which, according to someone here, the price went up to 425. So don’t point fingers at byd dealer. The obeah candle lighting dealer ridiculous too.

Rn I so vex at my sales rep. Back when I was buying, I asked him about the cx60 and he say keep dreaming. Now I went to service and casually walked in the showroom and behold my eyes. What do I see? A white cx60. It’s rwd with a sunroof. Lawwwd fadda. Reach home and talk to wifey who took my hands and showed me the house extension that hang up to the back hahahahaha. I guess no upgrade for me.

And the extension is for she parents to come live by we cause they getting old :|

I figure they realize the racket game with ASS (after sales service) is over with EV's.
So they front running the cost and charging you upfront for what they would have made. Plus they can cause they have a monopoly

Hybrid tucson sounding real good then.

But don't need another big SUV, next buy will be a foreign new vezel or a yaris cross as my secondary car. Should be able to pick up one of those for sub 200K.

2026 Hyundai Palisade. New engines this time a 3.5 V6 and a 2.5 Turbo Hybrid. Curious to see the price Massy would sell these for.

ANSA dropped the X90 form 400k tom300k for December. Biggest price drop I've ever seen in a while.

What's y'all take on the 2024 Kia Sonnet vs Honda Vezel 2024 (Z)? I want to upgrade from sedan to suv with a price budget of about 240k. I think the Vezel would be better on gas mileage and parts (considering the amount of them on the road), however I don't have any experience with hybrid vehicles (are you really saving on gas if you need to spend extra to maintain the hybrid system?). I do prefer the look of the Sonnet and the much higher ground clearance (170 Vezel vs 205 Sonnet) (I frequent POS daily). Finally I believe the sonnet would have much better resale value as I already see 2020 and 2019 Vezels going for around 100-120k.

In Aug they had a special where they were selling the $399k X90 (7 seat version) for $350k.
I always assumed that was actually the real price and once you negotiated you could have come down to there from $399.
At $300k that still represents a good discount anyhows.
