NAAAAH... tell the population to hold strain until dragon gas, pay property tax and increase utility rates.
More than 2.6 million coulda be saved from reversing Src decision for higher salaries which the UNC made noise about but now they taking it gladly and silent

More than 2.6 million coulda be saved from not creating the largest Cabinet in tnts history.

More than 2.6 million coulda be saved from not doubling the size of state boards and literally filling it with friends, family and Facebook trolls.

2.6 million is a one contract kickback for a minister.

Canceling our whole independence day parade to "save" that money is BS and u all know it.

Saying its the threat of National Security and while our COP said the threat for SOE was neutralized a week before is also BS.

One term party doing one term things. Why is the truth always so vague with them?

Salary Hikes - Kamla through the finance minister could have rescinded the SRC recommendations, but realizing the unions and trinis in general only have mouth Imbert sent out a circular in February implementing said recommendations. Once that happens, by law a government cannot reverse it. This can only be done by court order, and there is a legal challenge active to reverse the decision.

Kamla having the largest cabinet - This is painfully erroneous. If you compare numbers between Rowley's and Kamla's cabinet, they are the same. The difference is that Rowley in 2015 didn't start off that way. He started with 23 members (add 1 if you including the PM) where by 2020 in his second administration he was up to 29. Reason is that as the years went by, he began adding junior ministers aka "ministers in the ministry". Stuart Young's short lived cabinet was 29. Kamla's current cabinet? 29. Pnm quenk on social media deceptively inflated her numbers by adding parliamentary secretaries and senators who are not members of cabinet.

State boards - You can't say she doubled the size of state boards because she hasn't filled all state boards as yet which to me is overdue. Until that happens, then we can compare and contrast. Filling them with people you trust and can execute your policies has been practiced by all governments since our independence. You can't complain about Kamla now but quiet when it was happening under Rowley. My issue with this has always been merit.

Kickback - Who exactly? is this just an accusation or there was a judgement from the court?

Security Threat - It's a new threat that was confirmed by three separate intelligence agencies. If you don't want to believe that and take the word of macaroni marvin instead, that's up to you. If something did happen to Sturge, i'm certain you will jump out and say that Kamla can't protect her own ministers.

Cancelling of the parade - we still braying over this? The reason it was cancelled is because of national security and this action had the benefit of saving some money. If you don't believe that, ok fine. But we have pnm lick ass on social media turning it into a race and religious issue which is their political strategy for afros who didn't vote pnm to get back in line for elections in 2030. Independence wasn't halted or cancelled... only a parade. One parade halted and pnm on social media bawling WWWOOOOAAAHHH GGAAAADDDD!!!.... DaT iZ WICKedNeSS!!! Of course they don't, they think everyone lives life they way they do, the government pays for their life, they think it's the same everywhere. They can't conceptualize that is done by the community. That's the scurge of this country, too many simple minded and lack of personal achievement, the only thing that unifies them is race, unable to comprehend differently, it's a sickness. They have nothing else, just like the paid blogger on this chat. That's the result of a severely underdeveloped intellect..... But that's the PNM's strategy, it's very effective

The_Honourable wrote:Police, military take steps to protect Defence Minister – Threat against Sturge

POLICE and military intelligence agencies have unearthed a plot to kill Defence Minister Wayne Sturge, and several additional security measures have been put in place to protect the minister and those close to him.

Senior officers in three separate intelligence agencies linked to both the police and military confirmed "a real and present danger to the minister and his relatives."

A request seeking comment from the minister was not answered.

Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro did not respond to a WhatsApp query seeking comment on the matter on August 16.

The confidential report has reached the desks of military commanders of elite units in the Defence Force and Police Service and is being treated with urgency, according to one intelligence officer familiar with the case.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, on August 11, said two other government ministers’ – Barry Padarath (Public Utilities) and Khadijah Ameen (Rural and Local Government) – lives have been threatened over their reform of make-work programmes such as the Community-Based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme (Cepep) and the Unemployment Relief Programme (URP).

The PM said there were also threats made to URP programme manager Feroze Khan.

The development comes in the wake of the government's decision to cancel the annual Independence Day parade at the Queen's Park Savannah, Port of Spain, scheduled for August 31, based on advice from national security agencies.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Homeland Security on August 15, the parade was halted following security concerns raised amid the state of emergency declared on July 18, to dismantle organised criminal gangs operating from behind prison walls, from executing a plan to assassinate key justice and law enforcement officials.

While the immediate threat has been disrupted, according to the police commissioner, several other co-conspirators are not yet in custody, police said.

According to intelligence reports, the threat is linked to the minister's refusal to comply with demands to install hand-picked people in both state and constituency-level jobs.

Among the identified conspirators are a lawyer with close ties to the ruling UNC administration, two illegal quarry operators, and a senior military officer.

According to police, one of the illegal quarry operators is from Toco/Sangre Grande constituency, while the other, based in Santa Cruz, has close ties with senior military officers.

The senior military officer has, in the past, been seen driving an SUV owned by one of the quarry operators.

Police said the lawyer wields considerable influence and has reportedly been lobbying and demanding to select staff in the Ministry of Defence, the military, the Toco/Sangre Grande constituency office, and the Unemployment Relief Programme.

Police said information corroborating the threat has been identified in a series of telephone calls and a frightening incident which took place in Matura on August 9.

According to a sensitive report submitted to the police, the security team of soldiers and other agencies guarding the minister had to take evasive measures to protect Sturge after a suspicious car with four men approached the minister as he was with two other lawyers during a visit to his constituency of Toco/Sangre Grande.

The car sped away after the security team drew their weapons, according to the report. Police said the security team was unable to identify any of the occupants as the car had its high-beam lights on. The incident took place shortly after 9 pm.

According to the report, the security team secured the minister in an armoured SUV and headed to the Sangre Grande Police Station while the supporting team scouted for the car, described as a white Mazda 3, darkly tinted, with its registration plates obscured by reflective tape.

The same car had been spotted on at least three occasions passing the minister's detail during his constituency visit, according to the report.

Police said the vehicle was not intercepted, but the incident left the minister and two other lawyers shaken.

On July 29, police confirmed another incident involving the convoy carrying the Defence Minister which occurred around 12.30 am as Sturge left a public consultation on stand your ground legislation in Sangre Grande.

According to a report, as the convoy of vehicles exited into Wallerfield, people hiding in the bush hurled stones which struck one of the SUVs front windscreen. Two other vehicles, not in the convoy, were also struck near an area referred to as Jacob's Hill.

Sturge, a seasoned criminal defence attorney, who previously served as a UNC senator, was elected MP of Toco/Sangre Grande and appointed as Minister of Defence on May 3. He shares the Temple Court, Abercromby Street, Port of Spain, office with Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander.

Sturge was subsequently appointed Minister in the Ministry of Homeland Security to assist Alexander with his portfolio.

The former national security ministry was split into three – the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Homeland Security and the Ministry of Justice – by the UNC administration.

The new Ministry of Defence focuses on the Defence Force comprising of thousands of officers in the Regiment, Coast Guard, Air Guard and Defence Force Reserves.

The protection of the country's borders falls under the military air and naval assets, and soldiers have been given powers of arrest during the state of emergency.

While this sounds credible, we need to have arrests otherwise it remains as sensationalism

$2.8m ‘hit’ on 3 ministers
...Padarath, Ameen and Sturge targeted, say cops

A COLLECTIVE bounty of $2.8 million to kill has been placed on the heads of three Government ministers and a State official.

The ministers are Defence Minister Wayne Sturge, Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen and Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath. The State official is Unemployment Relief Programme manager Feroze Khan.

The orders to kill are connected to the ongoing Community-Based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme (CEPEP) and URP clean-up, according to senior police officials speaking to the Express on the condition of strict anonymity yesterday.

This follows what sources say is credible intelligence reports compiled by law enforcement outlining the threats especially against Sturge and the others as reported in the media at the weekend.

Three main players are said to be at the heart of plotting this attack, among them a Trinidadian with Colombian ties wanted for a 2024 murder of 35-year-old Kevon Lucas, alias Shrek, and his girlfriend Sherayne Salandy, 37, who were found in a Hyundai Elantra that was left idling along Boodoo Highway in Sangre Grande in mid-August 2024. He later fled the country and is hiding out in Colombia, according to sources.

Sources say that this wanted man, closely associated with a well known Toco/Sangre Grande contractor and another contractor from the Santa Cruz area, had pumped close to $20 million into the 2025 UNC election campaign with the promised payback of sweetheart contracts through the flagship State programmes.

Intelligence sources told the Express that the well-known contractor from the Toco/Sangre Grande was also a major financier of the Resistance Gang and one of his relatives served as the gang’s point man in that area.

Sources say that the Santa Cruz contractor has also been affiliated with a senior TTDF officer for several years—and questions have often been raised about their perceived relationship and alleged illicit activities.

“This matter is not recent; this has been happening since May of this year, and it only started to escalate in the last few months with attempts to especially intimidate Minister Sturge. But everyone connected with these programmes by extension are also being targeted,” said a senior police officer.

Since the escalation of threats the security details of these ministers have been increased.

Underworld sources in the loop about the planned attacks said that a Jamaican hit man was recently brought in to assist the other criminals in pursuing their targets.

Another aspect of the URP/CEPEP fallout is an apparent contract dispute between the syndicate and a prison gang boss. According to sources, in late July, several armed men associated with the latter went to the URP headquarters in Guaico, saying they had come to “take over” operations. Employees locked themselves inside the building until police came, after which the gunmen fled.

Blood money

In mid-June all CEPEP contracts were terminated by the Government, putting thousands of workers on the breadline.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Sturge, Padarath and other Government officials defended the termination of the contract which they said would be reformed and reviewed.

‘Teething problems’

Sturge, who spoke on July 29 at a public consultation on the proposed stand-your-ground legislation and the budget at his Toco/Sangre Grande constituency office, said that failure to change the operations at both these State-run entities would mean that the Government was complicit with crime.

At that meeting, Sturge indicated that the operation of ghost gangs who had been paid millions of dollars over the years—meant only a few had benefited from these programmes.

“There are going to be changes, whether you like it or not, and these changes will cause teething problems and growing pains, but will save lives. Because in URP, like other endeavours in this jurisdiction, ghost money fuels crime, causes death and deprives people of money they need. So URP in particular has to be fixed,” Sturge said.

In an interview on TV6’s Morning Edition yesterday, Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander alluded to the threats but did not go into any details.

“This decision (such as the cancellation of Independence Day Parade and other) was not made in a vacuum, and it didn’t take all of four or five seconds. The PM, after continuous deliberation for a long time, almost like giving a verdict in a matter of the High Court, taking into consideration the safety and security of our citizens, we as a Government had a decision to make,” he said.

Joe,

You really buying this?

They just making up Nancy stories for whatever reason….and the dotish AF Trinis keep falling for it.

But as a man say, if such a oh so big hit was on some men, they wont be walking around gracefully in Maracas. Not even a bullet proof vest on.

Nothing will come out of this, if anything, another Nancy story to say what a good job they did.

13th July 2025 - Government will know within four months whether the Petrotrin refinery in Pointe-a-Pierre can be restarted and what the cost of doing so will be.

Quite a lot was spent over the past 7 years in maintainence and keeping the lines operable. As they said it's a 4 months long assessment that should be done by November.
If it flops then they nation has every right to bash the UNC then
