Nissan recall - If youre looking at 2015 X-trail Hybrids-BEWARE!

Postby Ben_spanna » October 11th, 2018, 10:37 am

If you have been looking into buying a Foreign Imported X-trail Hybrid then theres something you should know:
Be wary:The recall applies to 9,759 cars that were built from April 20 to August 18, 2015. It applies to one hybrid model.

however im positive knowing our RORO businessmen in Trinidad, they will change the battery for you for FREE and check the harness!

Both issues are repairable locally. I've fixed both previously. obviously, its not ideal, but for those who purchased these when the tax break was in place the savings still made them worth buying.

Did you have to pay for it or did the RORO dealer honor anything? or perhaps you brought in yourself?
Have heard a real few horror stories involving a dealer and refusing to help even though warranty period was still in effect.

This site isn’t opening on mobile phones but its opening on the desktop but there doesn’t seem to be anything to check the VIN identification

The car was privately imported, it belonged to a friend. We used my workshop, dropped the transmission, figured out the problem and carried out the repairs. I know some RORO dealers are honoring their warranties and some are not, some are just not tooled or educated properly to conduct the repairs.

At a transmission rebuilder, you're looking at about $15,000 for the rebuild. Symptoms include harsh changeover from electric to engine, delay to drive in electric mode when the accelerator pedal is depressed and constant noise while vehicle is driven, emanating from the transmission.

Rebuild aside, there are some calibrations that need to be done after the rebuild as well.

It's very important to use only genuine Nissan NS3 fluid. Aftermarket 'universal' CVT fluid covers a wider viscosity range and while they can be used in some application requiring NS3, they cannot be used for the hybrid CVT's requiring NS3 as these are much more sensitive to fluid viscosity.
Under filling and Over filling the the transmission can also cause shifting problems, so its key to have the procedure done properly whenever you decide to have the fluid changed, to be honest, I don't know of anyone who does it properly locally, its just ignorance really.|

Genuine NS3 comes in a 4l grey pan with the 'NS3' lettering in dark blue, so lookout for that.
